Tasha Stanton

Tasha Stanton is Associate Professor and Osteoarthritis Research Theme Lead at IIMPACT in Health, University of South Australia in Adelaide. Trained originally as a physiotherapist, she is now a leading clinical pain neuroscientist whose research investigates the mechanisms of pain—why it occurs, and why, for many, it persists.

She holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney (2011), an MSc in Rehabilitation Science (2007), and a BSc in Physical Therapy (2002), both from the University of Alberta, Canada.

Associate Professor Stanton has received over $5.1 million in competitive research funding and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a highly sought-after speaker, having delivered over 90 keynote and invited presentations at national and international conferences.

Her research has been recognized with prestigious national and international awards, including the Ronald Dubner Research Award from the World Congress on Pain for the best trainee paper series, the Australian Pain Society Rising Star Award, and the Australian Physiotherapy Association Best New Investigator Award.

Her areas of expertise include pain education, osteoarthritis, low back pain, cortical body representation, somatosensation, and body illusions involving virtual and mediated reality.
